A Seminary Without Walls: Why Logosphere Bible Institute Exists

By Logosphere Bible Institute

announcementsabout the school

A pastor studying by lamplight at a desk, with an open Bible, a laptop and a globe behind him.

On a desert road south of Jerusalem, an official from Ethiopia sat in his chariot reading the prophet Isaiah. He had the scroll in his hands, and he still could not make sense of it. When Philip asked him about it, his answer was honest:

“Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone guides me?” (Acts 8:30-31, BSB)

That question has never gone away. All over the world there are pastors, Sunday school teachers and faithful believers who love the Bible and want to teach it well, but who have never had anyone sit beside them and guide them through it. There are more pastors without formal training than with it. A residential seminary means years away from home, a move to another city or country, and fees most of them could never pay.

Logosphere Bible Institute exists to close that gap.

What we built

The school teaches the subjects a residential seminary would teach, at the level it would teach them. Nine tracks are open now, with 328 lessons written in full:

  • Old Testament Survey and New Testament Survey, the whole story of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation
  • Hermeneutics, how to read the Bible well and avoid the common mistakes
  • Systematic Theology, what the Bible teaches about God, Christ, salvation, the church and the last things
  • Biblical Hebrew and Koine Greek, the languages the Bible was written in
  • Homiletics, how to prepare and preach a faithful sermon
  • Apologetics, how to answer everyone who asks the reason for the hope that is in you (1 Peter 3:15)
  • Christian Ethics, how to live and decide well in a complicated world

How a lesson works

Every lesson starts from a passage of Scripture and works outward from it. You will find the key terms explained, the background that makes the text clearer, and a question at the end to check that the main idea has landed. Every lesson can be read aloud at the speed you choose, so you can study on the bus, in the field or with tired eyes. The pages are kept light, because a student on a slow connection deserves the same seminary as anyone else.

Alongside the lessons is an AI theology tutor that knows which lesson you are in. You can ask it to explain a hard verse, unpack a Greek word or walk you through a doctrine you are struggling with.

Honest where Christians disagree

On some questions, faithful Christians have disagreed for centuries: baptism, the end times, how God's sovereignty and human choice fit together. On those questions we do not pretend there is one easy answer. The lessons and the tutor set out each position at its strongest, with the texts its defenders actually use, so you can weigh them for yourself and understand the brothers and sisters who see it differently.

Every quotation of Scripture on the site is from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), and each one is checked word for word against the BSB text.

What it costs, and what it is not

While we launch, every lesson is free. When membership opens, the first module of every track will stay free, and a low monthly membership will open the rest, along with the tutor and a certificate for every track you finish. Churches will be able to study together on a church plan.

We want to be plain about one thing. Logosphere Bible Institute is not an accredited college or seminary, and it does not award degrees or academic credit. Our certificates show that you completed a track. What we offer is the teaching itself, given as carefully as we know how.

Pass it on

Paul told Timothy what to do with what he had learned:

And the things that you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be qualified to teach others as well. (2 Timothy 2:2, BSB)

That is the whole idea of this school: training people who will teach others. If you have ever wished someone would sit beside you and guide you through the Bible, start here. Open the first lesson of Old Testament Survey and begin. And if you know a pastor or teacher who has never had the chance to study, send them this post.
